Building permits in the first half of 2006 have dropped about 20% from the same time in 2005, according to the Northeast Florida Builders Association. Overall, 7,077 permits were issued in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties through June, down from 8,829 in 2005. Only Duval had an increase in permits between May and June, up 15% over last year.
